Abstract
With a prominent agrarian economy, it is important to note the many agrarian festivals from across the nation. These festivals also help to highlight many rites, rituals and folklore, which forms the basic ethos of the celebrations and within the many layers of these are embedded knowledge about environment and ecology, which has been passed down through thousands of centuries. These have also been variously corroborated through archaeological, historical and epigraphical records of ancient India. This paper is an attempt to highlight this historicity of the agrarian festivals of India, which also corresponds to the mainstream festivals from across India, especially during the seasons of Vasant and Ashwin.
